The Oldest Library of India

The Sarasvati Mahal Library in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu, is one of the oldest libraries in India. It houses over 60,000 volumes, including a sizable collection of rare manuscripts written on palm leaves and parchment papers. It is believed to have been used as a royal library between 1535 and 1675 AD by the Nayak Kings of Thanjavur for their private use.
