Remnants of Love Amidst the Revolution in Nepal

Rashmi Rajya Lakshmi Shah was an active participant in the democratic movement against the régime of the Rana Dynasty which plagued Nepal for over a hundred years. She died by suicide, leaving behind this poem in the memory of her husband, who was killed by the Nepali army. The image shows her leaning back against him, their eyes locked — a glimpse of their cinematic love story before its tragic end.

Even with your departure
I embraced the blood-like red.
Indeed I have grown most fond
of the beauty of blood.
That blood which is like the vermilion
you sent to me as your wedding gift.
So I have treasured it,
welcomed it and followed it.
Now forever in the dream for red
these footsteps have reached their end.
With the last breath on this earth
I ask for a red revolution.
