Maharani Gayatri Devi, the Politician-Princess

Maharani Gayatri Devi, or the Rajamata of Jaipur was famed for her beauty, grace and immaculate sense of style, with women all over the world coveting her gorgeous chiffon sarees and pearl necklaces. The former Princess of Cooch Behar was passionate about wanting to make her mark in Indian democracy. She ran for Parliament in 1962 and won the constituency in the Lok Sabha in the world’s largest landslide, winning 192,909 votes out of the 246,516 cast!
